After you have applied, the Admissions Office will evaluate your application and if you are accepted, a copy of your acceptance letter will be sent to the International Programs Office (IPO is a separate office from both the Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions Departments.)

IPO will then evaluate your funding situation and current visa status in order to issue a visa document for you from UMass. You will receive forms from our office with your acceptance (if you do not receive them, email incomingstudents@ipo.umass.edu). Please completely fill out these forms and return them to us. Once we have all of the paperwork (as indicated below) we will issue the necessary visa documents. We typically start sending out I-20/DS-2019 forms about four to five months before the start of the semester.

If you did not receive the Information Packet and Admissions Response form with your acceptance, and you have funding and wish to attend UMass, please email incomingstudents@ipo.umass.edu so we can re-evaluate your status.

How to Apply - Graduate

If you are a Graduate student at UMass you must have the following paperwork sent in.

Required to issue visa documents:

Confirmation Form – return to Graduate Admissions []
Admissions Response Form – return to IPO (Fax# 413-545-1201)
Transfer Form (only if already at a US school) – return to IPO

Not required to issue visa documents:

Immunization Form – return to Health Services
Housing Form (if you require housing on campus) – return to Housing Services

How to Apply - Undergraduate

If you are an Undergraduate student at UMass you must have the following paperwork sent in.

Required to issue visa documents:

Pay the Admissions Confirmation Fee – return to Undergraduate Admissions
Admissions Response Form – return to IPO (Fax# 413-545-1201)
Transfer Form (only if already at a US school) – return to IPO

Not required to issue visa documents:

Immunization Form – return to Health Services
