Regardless of what you may think your family's financial situation is, you are strongly encouraged to work with your parents to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Financial Aid) available online. Just the submission of a FAFSA is often the first pre-requisite to apply for some of these scholarships, regardless of what the outcome is.

These scholarships will cover the full cost of a summer of language study from beginner to graduate in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese and Russian at the Middlebury College Language Schools during the summer of 2007. These merit-based scholarships are part of the "100 Sumer Scholarships for Peace Program" made possible by a $1 million gift from Kathryn Wasserman Davis. Application deadline is February 15, 2007.

Any major; no language requirement; must be U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Selection is based on a combination of academic potential and financial need. Students apply directly for this scholarship; no certification from IPO necessary.

Taiwan Ministry of Education Scholarships for Study in Taiwan
Available Fall/Spring/Summer semester at Tunghai University. Merit-based scholarship; UMass students given top priority. UMass students filing applications for Tunghai University are automatically considered for this scholarship.

Supports language and culture study in languages deemed essential to security of the United States; includes Japanese, Mandarin, Korean, Cantonese, Hindi and Urdu.

Taiwan Ministry of Education Scholarships for MA or PhD students
These provide foreign students with opportunities to pursue their studies in Taiwan and achieve either the M.A. or Ph.D. degree. (Overseas Chinese Students and R.O.C. nationals excluded.)
