Welcome to Issue 2!
Did you know that although ILED was formally
established in January 2002, it builds on the base of
two earlier offices, Economic Development (OED) and
Strategic Technology Alliances (STA). Both were
recognized nationally and in Massachusetts as examples
of best practices in university-industry relations. This
issue of the newsletter is filled with information related
to industry partnerships, University policies, regional
activities, and industry facts - all to make your industry
interactions more productive.
If you are receiving this for the first time, welcome!
Please forward liberally.

| MA Executive Network Builds on UMass Connection | | | Over 300 UMass alumni who are executives in
predominantly technology-oriented MA companies meet
three times a year in Waltham. Although the
events are for providing an environment for people with
a common bond to network, the group - dubbed the
UMass Executive Breakfast Club - has been noticed by
The Boston Globe and Mass High Tech publications.
They are also engaging in the campus and the
legislature in new and exciting ways. For example, the
newest member of the campus's Industry Liaison
Council was "discovered" at the last breakfast.

significantly greater biosciences-related research
activity, business development, technology
commercialization, and workforce development within
Western MA and surrounding areas. Work is expected
to commence in May and conclude in October 2002.
