Developing renewable alternatives to gasoline using innovative genomic methods
Our laboratory is developing a model system for biofuels research, Clostridium phytofermentans, that is able to convert fiberous plant biomass into ethanol and hydrogen. Our long-term goal is to contribute to the production of biofuels derived from ecologically and economically sustainable plant feedstocks by developing and applying genome-based technology.
