Mechanical Engineering Student Wins First Prize in NSF Poster Competition

A UMass Junior majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Peter Dimeo, won first place in a NSF poster competition within the 2020 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE). This virtual conference is the American Society of Mechanical Engineering’s largest research and development event of the sort.

Dimeo is part of the Intelligent Sensing Lab, where he works under the supervision of Xian Du (CPHM). He and his teammates produced an award-winning poster that detailed Predictive Autofocus Technology. Their work compared a predictive algorithm to conventional motorized autofocus methods.
