Biophysical Characterization and Bioproduction Separation-Core Summer Internship

UMass Amherst operates more than 30 Core Facilities offering a wide range of services to support basic, translational, and clinical research, including access to cutting-edge technologies, high-end instrumentation, and technical expertise. The CSI Program aims to provide hands-on experiential research & technical training with these facilities to UMass undergraduate students from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

The Biophysical Characterization and Bioproduction Separation Facilities are seeking a summer intern to assist with the following:

  • Assist with day-to-day operations
  • Perform routine sample preparation and gathering of data for analysis
  • Perform routine maintenance activities
  • Assist with conducting research projects

Qualifications:

No previous experience is required, but preference will be given to individuals who have worked in labs conducting chemistry, biochemistry, or biology research. Enthusiasm for understanding chemical and biological processes in protein research is a must.

  • The ability to learn new and varied software
  • Microsoft Office

Please indicate which of the required lab safety trainings for Biophysical and Bioproduction Core Facilities you have completed: (Already completed lab safety trainings are a plus, but not required for consideration. You will be able to complete any trainings that you do not already have prior to the start of your internship.)

  • General lab safety
  • Fire safety
  • Biological Safety

Specialized, on-the-job training will be provided by the biophysical characterization and bioproduction core facility staff.

Interns will also work under the supervision of the core manager or director.

Workload:  300 hours during the summer session, May 18–August 14, 2020. Weekly schedules may be flexible, and will be coordinated with your supervising Core Facility Director.

Compensation:  $15/hour
