GENERAL MANAGER

HOTEL UMASS AND CONFERENCE CENTER

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Auxiliary Enterprises this

position provides leadership and management for Hotel UMass, Hotel UMass

Restaurant and Lounge, Conference Center and Sales Office. Requires an

entrepreneurial thinker and someone who has the ability to creatively problem

solve and adjust strategy to meet Auxiliary Enterprises goals and improve the

level of quality and guest satisfaction resulting in the financial and

operational success of the UMass Hotel, Hotel UMass Restaurant and Lounge,

Conference Center and Sales Office with strong emphasis on sales and marketing. 

Annually UMass Hotel and Conference Center hosts over 300 conferences bringing

approximately 45,000 guests to the University.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and training plus 7 years hotel

    management experience required.

 

2.  Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work with diverse

    constituencies and stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes required.

 

3.  Demonstrated strong entrepreneurial spirit.

 

4.  Must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team.

 

5.  Working evenings, weekends and holidays may be required.

 

 

SALARY:  Commensurate with skills and qualifications.

STAFF OPTOMETRIST

Hourly/Non-Benefitted Position

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

This position is for up to 40 hours per week, 52 weeks in the Eye Care Services

At University Health Services for students, faculty, staff and their dependents

at University of Massachusetts Amherst.  We are located in the Five-College area

with many cultural/recreational opportunities. Opportunity for full time or part

time with flexible schedule. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Doctorate in Optometry.

2.  One to three years’ experience in clinical optometry.

3.  License to practice Optometry in Massachusetts, Therapeutic Pharmaceutical

    Agents (TPA) and Diagnostic Pharmaceutical Agents (DPA) certified.

4.  Work requires extremely fine eye-hand coordination, but no unusual working

    conditions. 

 

 

SALARY:  Hourly rate of pay commensurate with experience.

This position is non-benefitted; initial one-year appointment, with the

possibility of renewal.

The University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applications for the Director of

International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS), a service unit that

facilitates campus international exchange activities and provides support and

technical services for international students, visiting international faculty and

scholars, new international faculty, and the academic departments and organized

research units that enroll, invite and/or employ them.  The Director oversees

services to campus through policy development, program and budget administration,

resource management and supervision of professional and classified staff. The ISS

Division of the International Programs Office (IPO) facilitates campus support

and programmatic efforts including orientation and acculturation activities, and

liaises with campus and community resources, including the Graduate School,

Undergraduate Admissions, and Student Affairs. Under the direction of the Vice

Provost, it provides services directly to international students and scholars to

promote campus internationalization, in support of the mission and vision of the

LIBRARIAN I/SCHOLARLY COMMUNICATIONS RESIDENT LIBRARIAN

 

TWO (2) YEAR POSITION

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks candidates for the position of

Scholarly Communications Resident Librarian, a two year position.  As the largest

public academic research library in Massachusetts, we are a key partner in

teaching, learning, and research at UMass Amherst and in the Commonwealth. By

combining the latest information technology with excellent public service, the

staff builds and maintains a rich information environment, facilitates access to

it, and creates a place that functions as a hub of campus and community scholarly

activity.  The Scholarly Communication Resident Librarian explores, adapts, and

implements emerging technologies and policies in support of library and campus

open access, open education, and library publishing initiatives.  Develops and

manages digital repository projects and collections; works with other library

staff to develop and implement metadata and preservation standards; facilitates

the development of workflows that accommodate new scholarly communication

initiatives; develops and offers workshops and tutorials on copyright and open

access topics.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Master’s degree in library sciences - or equivalent degree – from a program

    accredited by the American Library Association, or its appropriate equivalent

    in librarianship from another country, or have appropriate equivalent

    experience.

2.  Familiarity with emerging digital repository or digital library technologies

    and emerging scholarly communication tools and trends, including open

    education resources.

3.  Knowledge of metadata standards (i.e. Dublin Core) and metadata structures

    (i.e. XML/XSLT, MARC).

4.  Familiarity with numerous digital file formats and related software.

5.  Demonstrated awareness of copyright law as it relates to educational and

    library uses.

6.  Capacity to thrive in an exciting, ambiguous, future-oriented environment,

    and to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities.

7.  Knowledge of the research and education process in a university setting.

8.  Ability to work in an environment of teamwork and cooperation, excellent

    interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly, knowledgeably,

    orally and in writing.

9.  Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships and deal

    with the public graciously.

10. Ability to organize work, develop effective work processes, assess work

    priorities, and work independently.

11. Experience using beBress’ Digital Commons software, preferred.

12. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which might include evening, weekends,

    and holiday hours.
