STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Center for Intelligent Information
Retrieval (CIIR at the university of
Massachusetts Amherst is seeking one
computer professional as either a Systems
Manager I or a Senior systems Manager to
support its expanding research. The
CIIR is one of the leading research groups
working in the areas of information
retrieval and information extraction. The position is responsible for the
computing infrastructure of the Center,
including large servers and computing
clusters (with 620 processor cores), over
75 personal computers, 100 terabytes of
storage, and back-up systems see http://ciir.cs.umass.edu/ for more
information.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1 .M.S. in Computer
Science or related field and 1-2 years of experience (or
B.S. plus three
to five years).
2. Requires work
experience in the areas of systems programming and networking.
3. Expertise in
UNIX and Windows system administration, network, shell script
programming, web-based
programming, and database systems (PERL, Python, PHP,
and SQL).
4. Experience with
planning, budgeting, and purchasing hardware and service
contracts.
5. Experience with
Java and/or C++ programming a plus.
6. Familiarity with
server cluster file systems (NFS or Lustre) and network
storage
environments (SAN, DAS or NAS).
7. Demonstrated
leadership ability and organizational skills.
8. Technical
management experience preferred.
Hiring
$64,300. ($64,300 may be approved for exceptionally
qualified individuals.)

Assistant Director of Admissions
Undergraduate Admissions
Two Positions
GENERAL
STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Assistant Director of
Admissions is an integral member of the department’s
professional staff, which is
charged with recruiting, selecting, and yielding the
undergraduate classes. The assistant director acts as one of the
several readers
for freshman applications and
serves in a public relations and informational role with
prospective applicants, their
parents and their high school guidance
counselors. Travel to specific, assigned regions for
presenting informational
programs, attending college fairs
and/or developing programs is required.
In
addition, the assistant director
will manage a specific territory, develop
collegial relationships with
school personnel, identity and recruit appropriate
applicants , manage evaluate, and
implement outreach and recruitment programs,
and serve as a model and mentor
for new staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
h
1. A bachelor’s degree,
ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively,
sensitivity to multicultural and socioeconomic issues, and
excellent
organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills are
required.
2 Must be available
and willing to work a varied schedule, including
evening/weekend work and minimum of 4-6 weeks of seasonal
travel per year.
3. Must have a
valid driver’s license (with proof of insurability).
4. Knowledge of
Word, Excel, and Power Point is required.
5 Preferred
qualifications include prior experience as an admissions
counselor/recruiter, experience in marketing and sales,
experience with student
record systems, and bilingual ability.
