ASSOCIATE SOFTWARE ENGINEER

COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Under the general direction of a senior faculty member, contributes to the design,

research, development, installation, and maintenance of systems software and

utilities and enhancements to support the research developments in the Information

Extraction and Synthesis Laboratory (IESL). Work with computer science researchers

and other engineers on new tools for information extraction, browsing, search and

data mining of research publications and patents. Two positions are available.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  B.S. in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of

    education, training and experience.

2.  Excellent programming skills in Java.

3.  Experience with utilizing low-level system primitives (UNIX preferred).

4.  Experience with building software systems and systems integration.

5.  Experience with WWW applications development using HTML or Perl.

6.  Familiarity with at least one of the following areas: information retrieval,

    text extraction, natural language processing, or artificial intelligence.

 

 

Normal Starting Salary: $38,500 - $43,300; up to $48,100 may be approved for

exceptionally qualified individuals.

 

PROFESSIONAL STAFF SALARY ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM POSITION LEVEL 25.
