ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR LEADERSHIP AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

ADVISING - CENTER FOR STUDENT DEVELOPMENT

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The Assistant Director for Leadership and Community Service, under general

supervision of the Director of Student Activities and Involvement (SAI), will

independently facilitate leadership, life skills, community service, and/or group

development programs for associated UMass students and implement program policy,

including the instruction of university staff and faculty who work with the

leadership and community service programs; and will provide related training,

educational, and cultural programs for the campus community, assuming primary

responsibility for student leadership development and community service

opportunities. Duties include student staff supervision.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Master's Degree in a related field plus two years post-baccalaureate

    experience in the advisement and development of students in a higher education

    setting or Bachelor's degree in a related field plus six years’ experience as

    listed above.  Experience in Student Activities preferred.

 

2.  Knowledge of student and leadership development and experience working with

    diverse student populations.

 

3.  Experience in community engagement and working with community service

    partners.

 

4.  Experience in program planning and implementation and in training and workshop

    design.

 

5.  Proficient in Microsoft Office applications as well as database and software

    management.

 

6.  Position requires some night and weekend hours.

 

 

Hiring Salary Range: $40,100 - $50,300.  Normal Starting Salary: $40,100 - $45,200.

WEB DESIGNER/PRODUCTION MANAGER

COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The Communications & Marketing team in University Relations is looking for a Web

Designer/Production Manager to help advance the University’s goal of positioning

UMass Amherst as a premier national research institution through design and

production of the University Web presence.  This position includes, but is not

limited to, recommending Web design strategies, Web coding and style standards,

Web templates development and maintenance, Web page and multimedia production,

Web site testing and quality control.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent education and

    training plus a minimum of 5 years’ experience in designing and implementing

    Web sites; demonstrated proficiency with and knowledge of HTML, XML, CSS,

    Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and other graphic design tools; working knowledge of

    JavaScript, XHTML, XLST and PHP as well as content management systems such as

    Joomla and Drupal.

2.  Experience with usability testing for web sites; experience working in cross-

    platform environments including Mac, PC and Unix.

3.  Familiarity with typography and cross platform Web site style standards, HTML

    and CSS standards and best practices for site design and function.

4.  Ability to prioritize goals and formulate independent decisions regarding

    procedures and operations.

5.  Demonstrated ability to work with others to formulate plans and objectives in

    accordance with overall departmental goal.

6.  To participate in on-call rotation for updating the UMass front page during

    off-hours and weekends.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

7.  Drupal experience.

 

Hiring salary range:  $44,300-$55,500; normal starting salary range: $44,300-$49,900.

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The Assistant Director of Admissions is an integral member of the department’s

professional staff, which is charged with recruiting, selecting, and enrolling

the undergraduate first-year class. The Assistant Director acts as one of several

readers for freshman applications and serves a public relations/informational

role with prospective applicants and their parents and with high school guidance

counselors. Travel to specific, assigned regions for presenting informational

programs and attending college fairs is required.  The Assistant Director manages

a specific territory, develops collegial relationships with school personnel,

identifies and recruits applicants, and manages, evaluates, and implements

outreach and recruitment programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  A bachelor’s degree, ability to speak and write clearly and persuasively,

    sensitivity to multicultural and socioeconomic issues, and excellent

    organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills are required.

2.  Must be available and willing to work a varied schedule, including

    evening/weekend work and a minimum of 4-6 weeks of seasonal travel per year.

3.  Must have a valid driver’s license (with proof of insurability) and the

    ability to obtain a university credit card.

4.  Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

5.  Include prior experience as an admissions counselor/recruiter or relevant

    experience in marketing/sales; experience with student record systems

    (preferably PeopleSoft).

6.  Bilingual ability. 

 

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to the

undergraduate experience at a major research university.

 

 

Hiring Salary Range: $36,500 - $45,700.  Normal Starting Salary: $36,500 - $41,100.
