DIRECTOR UNIVERSITY HEALTH SERVICES

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The Director will provide administrative and medical direction, leadership and

strategic vision to University Health Services (UHS) and provide patient care

in a limited practice.  The position is responsible for overseeing UHS

operations.  UHS is a fully accredited health center, offering comprehensive

care and referrals with a special focus on the needs and concerns of students. 

UHS employs a team of board-certified physicians, nurse practitioners,

physician assistants, registered nurses, an optometrist, and certified medical

assistants.  In addition to primary care services, UHS has an eye care and

optical center, allergy, and travel medicine clinic.  In-house ancillary

services include radiology, physical therapy, pharmacy and clinical laboratory. 

Contracted specialty services include acupuncture, mind/body medicine,

obstetrics and gynecology, orthopedics and sports medicine. UHS is in the

process of implementing an electronic medical records system. In addition, UHS

currently administers service contracts to provide services to Hampshire

College and Amherst College. The Director manages a budget of around $20

million/year.  UHS consists of approximately 155 employees and realizes over

70,000 visits annually.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  M.D. or D.O. degree, three years of residency, Board certification in a

    primary care specialty and licensure for the practice of medicine in the

    Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

 

2.  Seven to ten years of progressively responsible patient care and

    administrative experience.

 

3.  Extensive knowledge of the principles of health care planning and

    administration particularly as these  relate to prepaid group practices in

    college and university settings.

 

4.  Firm understanding of the relationship of student health care to student

    development

 

5.  Registration as a controlled substance practitioner in Massachusetts and

    with the FDA

 

6.  Insurable by the Massachusetts Medical Professional insurance Association

    or equivalent Insurer

DEPUTY CHIEF OF POLICE

 

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The University of Massachusetts Amherst invites applicants for the position of

Deputy Chief of Police Operations.  The individual appointed to this position

works under the direction of the Chief of Police and is responsible for the

administration and management of the University Police Department relative to

the enforcement of laws of the community and safety of students, faculty,

staff, and visitors.  Supervises five Lieutenants, and (indirectly) 9

Sergeants, 46 patrol officers, and 12 dispatchers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent education and training) in criminal

    justice or related field (master’s degree preferred) and graduation from an

    accredited police academy.

 

2.  Must hold or be eligible to receive a valid license to carry firearms in

    Massachusetts.

 

3.  Demonstrated success in leadership positions in a police department, with

    at least five (5) years of supervisory experience at a command level.

    Demonstrated ability to organize, supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate

    assigned staff.

 

4.  Extensive training and experience in community policing and in police

    methods and investigative procedures.  Knowledge of mandatory crime

    reporting laws/regulations and laws pertaining to juveniles and university

    students.

 

5.  Prior knowledge and experience in the COMPSTAT process in a university or

    municipal setting.

 

6.  Ability to assess law enforcement or other hazardous situations and

    determine an appropriate course of action and to maintain a calm,

    courteous, objective, and conscientious attitude and demeanor in all

    situations.

 

7.  Experience in large scale special events planning and management.

 

8.  Extensive experience and training in dignitary protection.


 

9.  Must be an accomplished and high-energy professional who possesses strong

    spoken and written communication skills and has the capacity for analytical

    thinking and problem-solving, with particular emphasis on innovative

    abilities related to crime reduction.

 

9.  Personal characteristics that ensure effective working relationships with

    all segments of the university and the public, including a commitment to

    meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural,

    disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the student, employee, and community

    populations.

 

10. Prior experience in supervising and managing investigative components of a

    law enforcement agency, to include maintaining collaborative relationships

    with local, state and federal law enforcement.

 

11. Extensive experience in mentoring subordinate personnel to higher

    performance.

 

12. Experience working in a unionized environment preferred.  

 

13. Ability to maintain physical fitness appropriate to police work and have

    the ability to travel, and to work evenings and weekends as necessary.

CASE MANAGER

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

Under the general direction of the Dean of Students, the Case Manager provides

intake for, meets directly with and develops a supportive action plan in

collaboration with on and off campus partners for a case load of students

reflective of the total undergraduate and graduate student population

experiencing medical and/or  mental health emergencies,  family emergencies

including death, illness or financial adjustment issues, socialization, and/or

behavioral needs, ensuring students receive appropriate interventions,

referrals and follow up services and are monitored effectively.  This position

assists students experiencing crisis, trauma and/or mental health issues with a

focus on prioritizing issues and coordinating campus and community resources in

order to maximize student success and minimize community distress.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Master’s degree in Education, Social work, Psychology, Counseling or a

    related social/behavioral science field and three years experience

    delivering case management services or Bachelor’s degree in Education,

    Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or a related social/behavioral science

    field and five years’ experience delivering case management services.

2.  Must have knowledge of student development theory and its applications and

    common issues and trends for college students graduate and undergraduate,

    case management models, evidence of an effective leadership style, and a

    background demonstrating success in working with student, families,

    administrators, and faculty.

3.  Current knowledge of principles/practices in student development,

    multicultural competence, and case management.

4.   Must have knowledge in areas of crisis and risk management, behavioral

    intervention, and community standards in a higher education environment.

5.  Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.

6.  Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to manage multiple, competing

    priorities; demonstrated computer proficiency (word processing,

    spreadsheet, and database systems); strong analytical skills and excellent

    communication skills are required.

7.  Demonstrated skills and creativity in managing difficult and complex

    situations involving students, families, staff and faculty.

8.  Must have highest standards of integrity and ethics in both performance and

    behavior.

 

 

HIRING SALARY RANGE:  $40,100 - $50,300, NORMAL STARTING SALARY: $40,100 - $45,200
