WEB DEVELOPER, GRAPHICS & INFO DESIGN

SCHOOL OF COMPUTER SCIENCE

 

PART-TIME (50%-Time)

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

Working with the Center for Knowledge Communication (CKC), design, create, and

modify web sites, web-based tutors, and other web-based applications to improve

math teaching and learning. Design and organize information, write, edit and

standardize technical content, select and develop graphics to illustrate and

reinforce learning concepts as well as promote a consistent brand.  Promote the

mission of the CKC and its products by developing and maintaining information and

materials for many different marketing channels, including print, web, social

media, portable media and presentations.  Research, study, and incorporate

advancements in digital communication practices to enhance the usability and

effectiveness of the web-based applications. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Bachelor's degree in Education, Communication, Computer Science or related

    field  (Master’s Preferred), plus 2 years’ experience in technical writing

    (online information development, documentation of software function, and

    ability to communicate technical knowledge to the nontechnical community).

2.  Familiarity with the trends, technology, and scope of learning technology for

    both remote and classroom education.

3.  Ability to conduct research and keep abreast of technology trends, best

    practices, and standards.

4.  Ability to interact effectively and work productively, collegially,

    cooperatively and collaboratively in planning, organizing and supervising the

    work of others.

5.  Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.

 

Necessary technical skills:

 

6.  Proficiency in all programs in the Adobe Creative Suite: Dreamweaver,

    Illustrator, Fireworks, Photoshop, Flash, and InDesign.

7.  Proficiency in:  HTML, XHTML, HTML5, CSS 2.1, CSS3

8.  Experience incorporating text and graphics into various forms of social media

    platforms

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

9.  Familiarity with:  JavaScript, My SQL, PHP, Word Press, and Drupal.

10. Ability to analyze work processes and plan for applications of technology;

    and be able to handle multiple responsibilities in a changing environment

11. Ability to make clear, concise presentations to staff, assistants,

    colleagues, and visitors


12. Ability to foster a collegial work environment that encourages change and

    innovation

13. Knowledge of accessibility techniques in web development and the legal and

    ethical obligations. 

14. Knowledge of the social & political impact of technology in education and

    education policy

15. Ability to make independent choices based on audience need, legal and ethical

    standards, and available resource concerning what levels of accessibility

    should be met.

 

 

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $20,050 –$25,150; NORMAL STARTING SALARY: $20,050 - $22,600

This half-time, grant funded position is anticipated to begin sometime in March

2013 and continue for two years, with the possibility of renewal contingent on

additional funding.  Salary reflects a part-time position.

SCHOOL OF NURSING

PROJECT COORDINATOR FOR DIVERSITY

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The Project Coordinator is responsible for oversight and monitoring of grant

activities. Working in close partnership with the Principle Investigator, the

Coordinator will be responsible for day-to-day supervision of Achieving Diversity

grant activities, including developing and serving regional middle and high

school nursing outreach, developing and serving nursing outreach and support,

coordinating the annual Nursing Celebration and Orientation Conference, convening

community advisory board meetings, facilitating cultural advisory board meetings,

and implementing faculty/staff and student cultural competence workshops.

 

In his or her role as student advocate, the Coordinator will provide ongoing

student support, advice, advocacy and informal counseling ensuring student

success and effective implementation of the Project’s overall three-year plan.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, or related field; Master’s degree

    preferred.

2.  Two or more years of work experience in a health related field preferred.

3.  Two or more years of counseling, teaching or advising experience.

4.  Two or more years of experience in student or project management relation

    position preferred.

5.  Proven experience with multi-cultural project design and management.

6.  Demonstrated ability to collaborate and network with community

    members/leaders and community based organizations.

7.  Demonstrated strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

8.  Proven skill and sensitivity to diversity issues and the needs of non-

    traditional students to include establishing a rapport, maintaining

    harmonious working relationships, and dealing tactfully and professionally

    with others.

9.  Exceptional computer knowledge and skill required

10. Proven ability with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel (with formulas), email,

    and file sharing (UDrive, Google Docs, Dropbox, etc)

11. Ability to prepare reports as well as analyze and determine the applicability

    of data, draw conclusions and make appropriate recommendations for action.

12. Ability to evaluate, analyze and offer advice with a humanistic and balanced

    approach.

13. Must be able to create and maintain organized systems for data management;

    strong administrative and organizational skills required.


14. Ability to travel between local communities and UMass campus for outreach

    work.

15. Proven ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in handling

    sensitive or confidential information.

16. Proven ability to understand, explain, and apply rules, regulations, policies

    and procedures.

17. Ability to prioritize and make decisions to adjust to changing situations;

a. Willingness to take on a variety of tasks

b. Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed

18. Ability to work individually on self-directed assignments and collaboratively

    in groups, with minimum supervision.

 

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $40,100 –$50,300; NORMAL STARTING SALARY: $40,100 - $45,200

This is a three (3) year, twelve (12) month, full-time grant supported position.
