GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The College of Humanities and Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts

Amherst seeks a full-time Director of Student Retention and Programming. The

director will analyze student retention patterns, conduct focus groups, develop

assessment measures, and teach a one-credit career preparedness course for

undergraduates. The director will develop, coordinate, and implement student

success initiatives for the overall student population in the College of

Humanities and Fine Arts as well as identified student populations. The director

will work closely with the HFA Advising Center, as well as other on-campus

offices to develop new initiatives. The director reports to the Dean of the

College.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.   Master’s Degree (preferably in higher education, guidance & counseling,

     social sciences, or related field)years’ experience in one or more of the

     following areas in higher education: academic advising, institutional

     research, psychological/counseling services, and student services areas such

     as residence life, student activities, and academic support programs.

 

2.   Demonstrated ability to work independently to organize multiple tasks and

     set priorities for action in a fast paced office environment.

 

3.   Ability to collaborate with others to identify and achieve shared goals, as

     well as the ability to solve problems and identify reasonable alternatives

     to complex situations.

 

4.   Extensive knowledge of measurement and evaluation in higher education, as

     well as demonstrated experience with survey research, focus groups, and

     interviews.

 

5.   Experience working with student with a range of academic abilities

     (including honors level and academically at-risk).

 

6.   Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

 

7.   Proficiency with work processing, spreadsheet, and data base programs (SAS

     or SPSS preferred).

 

8.   Experience working with a large, culturally diverse faculty and

     undergraduate student population.

 

9.   Supervisory and training experience, working with both undergraduate and

     graduate students.

 

10.  Teaching experience in a college setting.


 

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $44,300 –$55,500; NORMAL STARTING SALARY: $44,300 - $49,900

Research BUSINESS MANAGER LIAISON

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The Research Business Manager Liaison (RBML) is a resource to faculty and

research staff in School/College and institute offices with sponsored project

administration and will provide leadership, training, and project management

services to ensure timely, high quality, and coordinated research administrative

services.  The RBML will play an integral part in developing and implementing a

network across the Amherst campus to facilitate and encourage collaborative

discourses and enhanced service delivery systems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration,

    financial management, or related field OR Bachelor’s degree plus relevant

    training.

 

2.  Three or more years of experience in pre- and post-award processes, research

    and fiscal compliance, information technologies, and/or technology transfer

    in an academic, research institute, corporate, audit, or government

    environment.  Demonstrated experience in the interpretation and application

    of regulations pertaining to sponsored programs.  Preference given to

    experience with higher education research programs.

 

3.  Experience with the development of budgets and/or proposals in accordance

    with agency or institutional guidelines under tight deadlines.

 

4.  Ability to interpret and translate programmatic needs into cost effective

    budget proposals to maximize funding opportunities.

 

5.  Ability to analyze complex situations, identify workable solutions, and

    effectively balance service with regulatory compliance.

 

6.  Ability to work effectively, prioritize, and be flexible in a high-paced,

    high-volume professional environment.

 

7.  Outstanding organizational skills, ability to work on multiple projects

    simultaneously, capable of self-direction, ability to deal diplomatically

    with people at all levels, a high degree of personal integrity and

    discretion, solid decision-making skills, and judgment.

 

8.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

9.  Intermediate level of experience with Excel and Word.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Award Research Administrator reviews, negotiates, and establishes grants,

contracts, and cooperative agreements for research, instruction, and other public

service funding received by the University from international, federal, state,

and local government sponsors as well as private for-profit and not-for-profit

sponsors, including business, industry, associations, and foundations; provides

oversight of sponsored projects to minimize the University’s compliance risk

related to sponsored activities; and keeps abreast of new developments in federal

regulations, policies, and procedures in order to serve as an up-to-date source

of information and guidance for the research community.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field plus two years

    of experience in a business or administrative setting dealing with

    proposal/award review and administration.  Note:  If above education and

    experience requirements are not met, combination of education and relevant

    experience to total six years is acceptable.

 

2.  Extensive knowledge of compliance issues and federal regulations such as OMB

    Circulars A-110, A-21, A-133, and Cost Accounting Standards coupled with a

    thorough understanding of the various sponsoring agencies regulations.

 

3.  Previous experience directly negotiating contracts and/or grants.

 

4.  Excellent presentation skills and ability to effectively coordinate and

    provide training and educational opportunities to the campus community.

 

5.  Strong communication skills to effectively deal with conflicting views or

    issues and mediate fair solutions.

 

6.  Well-developed writing skills.

 

7.  Ability to exercise diplomacy, establish effective working relationships, and

    maintain a high degree of professionalism when working with OGCA staff,

    University departments, other research administration departments, and

    sponsoring agencies.

 

8.  Demonstrated experience and ability to work effectively with various computer

    systems and on-line submission portals required.

 

9.  Demonstrated ability to work in a team under tight deadlines, and to take

    direction from team leader.

 

10. Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload effectively.

 

11. Previous experience in an institution of higher education is desirable.


HIRING SALARY RANGE: $40,100 –$50,300; NORMAL STARTING SALARY: $40,100 - $45,200

For exceptional candidates, consideration may be given for a salary of up to $55,400.

UMass Dining Services seeks to hire dynamic individuals to fill two (2) full time

Assistant Manager, Dining Commons positions.  Under the supervision of the Dining

Commons Manager, these positions are responsible for assisting in the overall

management of the dining commons including supervision of food preparation and

service, assisting the Chef in estimating and ordering all food, conducting the

Culinary Planning Meetings, interacting with customers and assisting and

supporting the Dining Commons Manager in personnel matters.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Bachelor’s degree (Culinary Program diploma from a recognized institution may

    be considered) and 2-3 years progressive supervisory experience in a

    hospitality setting.

 

2.  ServSafe Certification required (must be obtained within 3 months of hire).

 

3.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel; familiarity with the

    Internet/Intranet.

 

4.  Reliable transportation required as well as a valid driver’s license.

 

5.  Willingness to work in one place with some travel requirements.

The Residence Director is a full-time professional staff member with live-in

responsibilities that include the comprehensive management of the residential

program that is safe, caring and socially just for the 275-675 students housed

in 1-3 residence halls.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Master’s Degree in a related field such as Student Development, Higher

    Education, or Counseling plus one academic year post-baccalaureate experience

    required at the time of hire as a live-in staff member to include crisis

    intervention and work with diverse student populations.

2.  Demonstrated experience and initiative with student and community

    development; supervision and staff training; advising student groups;

    creation and implementation of management systems.

3.  Demonstrated commitment and ability to create inclusive communities that are

    sensitive to diverse populations.

4.  This is a 43-week live-in position which requires some evening and weekend

    work plus on-call/call-back duty.

 

 

Hiring Salary: $36,126.87 cash salary for a 43-week position, which includes $1,174.00

For on-call responsibilities.
