GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks candidates for the position

of Undergraduate Education Librarian.  As the largest public academic research

library in Massachusetts, we are a key partner in teaching, learning, and research

at UMass Amherst and in the Commonwealth. By combining the latest information

functions as a hub of campus and community scholarly activity.  The Undergraduate

Education Librarian will provide leadership in planning, promoting, and assessing

the Libraries Information Literacy Program.  Lead the Information Literacy Team in

creating innovative and effective approaches to strengthening subject librarian

skills to design curriculum, tools and learning experiences that enhance critical

thinking and information and digital media literacy.   Provide information and

digital media literacy instruction and individual consultations for subject areas

and liaison responsibilities.   Provide administrative and programming supporting

for the Teaching Commons.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Master's degree in library science – or equivalent degree – from a program

    accredited by the American Library Association, or its appropriate

    equivalent in librarianship from another country, or have appropriate

    equivalent experience.

2.  Minimum of 2 years of information literacy experience.

3.  Demonstrated understanding of the concept of information literacy in

    academic libraries and its applications, especially for undergraduate

    populations.   

4.  Working knowledge of the ACRL Information Literacy Competency Standards for     Higher Education.

5.  Fluency with emerging technologies and ability to use them effectively to

    create and deliver instructional content. Required: Working knowledge of

    HTML5/CSS, plus familiarity with one or more of the following: screen

    casting software (e.g. Captivate, Camtasia); digital audio/video

    production; Web 2.0 tools (blogs, wikis, RSS, etc.). Ability and

    willingness to learn new technologies on an ongoing basis.

6.  Strong service orientation.

7.  Ability to adapt in a rapidly changing academic environment.

8.  Proficiency with Microsoft office and productivity software.

9.  Experience with instruction, training and assessment.

10. Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

11. Proficiency in teaching or public speaking in a large audience setting.

12. Familiarity with core library resources and collections for undergraduates,

 including major reference sources, open education resources, and research

 databases.


 

13. Ability to think critically and evaluate information resources and

    services.

14. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships and deal

    with the public graciously.

15. Ability to work and coordinate activities as part of a team that promotes

    collaboration and sharing of knowledge in a diverse educational

    environment.

Preferred:

1.  Classroom teaching experience

2.  Familiarity with basic usability principles for online information

    delivery.

3.  Experience or education which demonstrates knowledge of information and

    digital media literacy competencies and standards, learning theories, and

    best practices in library instruction.

4.  Experience with or coursework in instructional design principles.

DIGITAL IMAGE METADATA LIBRARIAN, IMAGE COLLECTION LIBRARY

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

 

The University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks candidates for the position

of Digital Image Metadata Librarian, Image Collection Library.  As the largest

public academic research library in Massachusetts, we are a key partner in teaching,

learning, and research at UMass Amherst and in the Commonwealth. By combining the

latest information technology with excellent public service, the staff builds and

maintains a rich information environment, facilitates access to it, and creates a

place that functions as a hub of campus and community scholarly activity.  The

Digital Image Metadata Librarian will collaborate with faculty, librarians and

information technology staff to develop, deliver and integrate digital images and

other objects into the curriculum.   Provide user support for generation,

classification, retrieval, and use of images through on-site consultation, print

resources, and online documentation.  Catalog materials in a variety of formats,

with emphasis on electronic and visual image resources.  Advise on the application

of appropriate current and emerging metadata schema and file standards to facilitate

access to digital image resources and other collections.  Train others on metadata

creation and management; and work closely with staff throughout the Library to

provide access to the Image Collection Library’s collection.  Provide information,

research, and reference assistance to library users at appropriate service points to

facilitate retrieval and use of images

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

1.  Master’s degree in library sciences - or equivalent degree – from a program

    accredited by the American Library Association, or its appropriate equivalent in

    librarianship from another country, or have appropriate equivalent experience.

2.  Experience with one or more of the following metadata standards:  VRA  Core 4.0,

    Dublin Core, CDWA, METS/MODS, OpenURL, OAI-PMH, EAD, XML, TEL or others

3.  Familiarity with AACR 2nd ed. Rev., Cataloging Cultural Objects, Library of

    Congress Subject Headings, MARC 21 format, and the OCLC cataloging system.

4.  Knowledge of digital asset management systems, such as the Luna Imaging Software

    Suite, Fedora, Dspace, CONTENTdm.etc.

5.  Awareness of the latest trends in academic librarianship.

6.  Strong commitment to excellent service and the ability to interact effectively

    and work productively and collaboratively with a wide variety of library staff

    and users.

7.  Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communications skills, as well as

    initiative, flexibility and willingness to engage in continual learning.

8.  Ability to plan, coordinate, and implement projects.

9.  Ability to distinguish colors as they relate to the color correction processing

    of digital images.

10. Advanced computer skills.  Familiarity with Microsoft Windows Office Suites,

   Photoshop and other productivity tools.

 


Preferred:

 

1.  Knowledge of visual literacy concepts, digital media literacy techniques and

    learning management systems.

2.  Experience with creation and/or management of digital objects in various image,

    text, sound, and/or video formats.

3.  Knowledge of how digital image collections and electronic objects are used in an

    academic setting.

4.  Academic degree in Visual Arts and working knowledge of French, and/or German,

    Italian, or Spanish.

SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST/LAB MANAGER, COMMUNICATION DISORDERS

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This professional position will entail speech language pathology (SLP) clinical

research services as well as grant management. The SLP/Lab Manager will be

responsible for all aspects of recruiting, scheduling, testing, treating, and

following up with chronically aphasic and healthy control study participants and

managing a four-year NIH grant.  S/he will be involved in data collection and

management, creating and training participants to use computer-aided home practice

programs. S/he will assist with preparation and management of grants and IRB

protocols and will assist with training and managing part-time and temporary

personnel, including graduate and undergraduate research assistants, and student

volunteers. S/he will assist the PI with publications and preparation of

presentations for scientific meetings.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Master’s Degree and ASHA CCC-SLP along with current MASS License as a Speech-

    Language Pathologist or eligibility.

 

2.  Ability to work with a culturally diverse community and students.

 

3.  Excellent oral and written communication skills and proficiency with word

    processing, spreadsheet and database programs.

 

4.  Three years’ experience as a licensed professional SLP; one year of experience

    working with adults with neurogenic language disorders; and prior experience

    testing and treating individuals with aphasia, including standardized tests of

    aphasia, are required.

 

5.  Ability and willingness to travel to multiple testing and recruitment sites

    throughout Massachusetts and to work on weekends during testing periods is

    required, as is a proven track record of maintaining confidential records.

 

6.  An ability to learn new computer programs is desirable.

 

Hiring Salary Range: $48,800 - $61,200; Normal Starting Salary: $48,800-$55,000

This position is a temporary grant-funded position. Funding for this position is

expected to continue through January 31, 2017.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

 

The  Director of Undergraduate Online Programs (BBA and BS) reports to the

Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs, the Associate Dean for Professional

Programs, (dotted line functional reporting) and is responsible for the overall

coordination and oversight of the recruiting, operations, functions and staff of

the Undergraduate Online Programs.  Additionally, this individual is directly

involved in the overall strategic planning for these programs as it relates to the

core goal of growing the program substantially in the next five years and

positioning it as a top-thirty program in the national rankings.  This individual

will also work closely with the Director of marketing & communications to assist

in the coordination and implementation of all Undergraduate Online Programs

marketing efforts.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

    three year’s professional work experience or Bachelor’s degree in Business or
