Assistant Director for counseling/staff assistant

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Assistant Director of Financial Aid for Counseling works under the

supervision of the Associate Director of Financial Aid and is responsible for the

day to day management of the customer service center dedicated to counseling

students and their families on the financial aid application process, program eligibility,

and alternative financing options.  This position will provide confidential counseling via

electronic mail, on the telephone, and at the walk-in customer service center.

 

The successful candidate will supervise staff and develop a comprehensive

training program for support staff, student staff and summer HELP line staff to

educate employees on all aspects of Financial Aid.  The Assistant Director acts

as a resource point person for all levels of customer service staff to

effectively counsel current and prospective students.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience in higher education

   administration are required. 

2. The successful candidate must have proficient working knowledge of Microsoft

   Excel and Word

3. Excellent written and oral communication.

4. The ability to work with a diverse student body and staff.

5. Experience in Financial Aid is preferred.

 

Hiring Salary Range: $40,000 - $50,300 Normal Starting Salary: $40,100 - $45,200

Upward Bound Assistant Director for Academic Support

Center for Multicultural Advancement and Student Success (CMASS)

CENTER FOR STUDENT DEVELOPMENT (CSD)

 

 

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Upward Bound Assistant Director for Academic Support, under the supervision

of the Upward Bound Program Director, will plan, coordinate, and supervise

components of the Program, to include the provision of: instructional services,

oversight of all academic support programs, career counseling for eligible

students, and coordination of the mentoring component for the summer program.

Facilitate academic, cultural, and social development enrichment activities in

order to promote participant completion of a high school diploma and preparation

to gain entry into a postsecondary institution. Establish positive rapport and

lines of communication with Program staff, university staff and faculty, teachers

and administrators of target schools, as well as, parents and members of the

local community. Work closely with the Program Director and Assistant Director

for Assessment in all areas of program assessment and evaluation to include

facilitating the collection of outcome results for performance reports related to

grant objectives.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as, education or psychology.

2.  One (1) year experience working with students and/or individuals from diverse

backgrounds, including low-income, and/or first-generation to attend college.

3.  Two (2) years’ experience working in academic advising, TRIO programs, counseling,

supplemental instruction, and/or teaching at the secondary school level.

4.  Demonstrated sensitivity to the circumstances of students and/or individuals from

diverse backgrounds, specifically, low-income and/or first-generation to attend college.

5.  Experience involving, and knowledge about, schools in urban environments.

6.  Ability to organize large and small groups meeting at assigned school sites.

7.  Ability to develop curriculum appropriate to meet Upward Bound Program needs.

8.  Persuasive written and oral communication skills, especially in presenting.

9.  Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office, including word processing,

spreadsheet, and presentation software, and social networking sites.

10. Ability to work with minimal supervision.

11. Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.

 

Hiring Salary Range:  $36,500 - $45,700 (midpoint) Normal starting salary:

$36,500 - $41,100 for 52 week position, 37.5 hours per week, plus benefits.

This is a grant funded position with continuation beyond 8/31/2017 contingent

upon funding.

assessment of participants’ needs to ensure that appropriate and relevant

services are offered and provided in an effective manner. Will be responsible for

all programmatic assessments and will develop a systematic plan to track program

participants’ academic progress, their college applications and SAT scores, and

other important data. Will provide assessment data for use in curriculum

development to ensure that high school age participants are developing skills in

key areas of grant objectives; work with Springfield Public Schools’ Department

of Assessment, Research and Accountability to examine existing data on

participants.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1.  Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as, education or psychology.

2.  One (1) year of experience working with students from diverse backgrounds,

specifically, low-income and/or first-generation to attend college,

3.  Two (2) years’ experience with academic assessment.

4.  Experience using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS).

5.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.

6.  Ability to travel frequently to and from educational sites, work evenings

and weekends.

7.  Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office, including word processing,

spreadsheet/excel and presentation software, and social networking sites.

 

 

Hiring Salary Range:  $31,739 - $39,739 Normal starting salary: $31,739 - $35,739

for 43 week position, 37.5 hours per week, plus benefits. This is a grant funded

best practices for the Department of Residential Life. Areas of focus
