How to Apply


Professional Staff Position

On-Campus Applicants (UMASS Amherst employees only) - Send a cover letter (include the search number), a resume, and any other documents as specified in the job advertisement to the search committee chair at the address given in the job advertisement.

Off-Campus Applicants (not currently employed by UMASS Amherst) - Send a cover letter (include the search number), a resume, and any other documents as specified in the job advertisement to: Employment Office, Room 167 Whitmore Administration Building, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003.


Classified Staff Position

On-Campus Applicants (UMASS Amherst employees only) for classified (benefited) positions must have a current employment application form and Applicant Skills Inventory on file with the University Employment Office. Applications are valid for six (6) months with the period ending date marked at the top of the form. Clerical/business tests administered by the Employment Office may be needed depending on which job you are applying for.

Application Procedure

Off-Campus Applicants (not employed by UMASS Amherst) for classified positions must fill out and submit an employment application and Applicant Skills Inventory to the University Employment Office. Clerical/business tests administered by the Employment Office may be needed depending on which job you are applying for. Off-campus applicants must have a preliminary interview with one of the Employment Office staff before the clerical/business testing can be scheduled.

Application Procedure

Note: Students who are enrolled in a degree program at the University of Massachusetts for a minimum of six credits may not apply for staff positions. They are eligible to apply for student employee jobs (see below).

Faculty

Faculty positions are not posted centrally by the University Employment Office. Instead they are advertised on individual campus department websites and in various forms of print media such as The Chronicle of Higher Education. See the Provost’s Office webpage for a list campus departments and their web links.


Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistant positions are generally not advertised by the University Employment Office. If you are looking for a graduate Teaching/Research Assistantship, Fellowship, etc., check the job postings on the web site or bulletin board of the academic department you are interested in.


Student Employment

Students enrolled at the University of Massachusetts Amherst can view student job listings at the Student Employment Office website.
