Background environmental levels of lead are often used as the reference group when evaluating the impact of lead on biologic variables. These levels are not zero, and it is possible that these levels, by themselves, have biologic effects. This site describes research to investigate the biologic effect of background levels of lead, and of lower than background levels of lead in mice.
The research was conducted at the Institute of Occupational health, Catholic University of Sacred Heart, School of Medicine (in Rome, Italy) by I. Iavicoli and colleagues. Collaborations in the analysis are from the Department of Public Health, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, MA.
