Research Initiatives and Forums
The History Department's faculty
and Ph.D. students conduct research
on many different regions and periods of the world's history. Faculty
and graduate students present their work in progress in a regular
Department Colloquium and the monthly Five
College Faculty Seminar in History. The Public
History program combines teaching, research and outreach in
historic preservation, museum studies, and archives.
Starting in Fall 2004, the Feinberg Family
Distinguished Lectureship will bring prominent scholars, teachers,
and history-makers to campus, in conjunction with courses and informal
activities.
Faculty research is published in leading journals and by major
scholarly and commercial publishers (see the list
of books by faculty). Members of the faculty have held fellowships
from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the John Simon Guggenheim
Memorial Foundation, the American Council of Learned Societies,
the American Antiquarian Society, the American Philosophical Society,
the Fulbright Commission, and the National Science Foundation. Two
members of the faculty have been finalists for the Pulitzer Prize.
