Julie de Chantal
I earned my doctoral degree in History from the University of Massachusetts in May 2016. In September, I joined the Five College Women’s Studies Research Center as a Research Associate and the Department of History at UMass as a lecturer.
I am currently working on transforming my dissertation into the book. My work examines Boston African American women’s political life from the 1890s to the 1970s. My research interests include women’s history, African American history, urban history, U.S. Northeast and New England, political and cultural history, marginality, feminist theory, and the development of U.S. popular culture.
In Spring 2017, I teach History 151H History of the United States since 1877 and History 385 Modern Boston.
