Research Interests and Professional Activities
Professor Ware's articles and reviews have appeared in Studies in Medieval
Culture, The New Catholic Encyclopedia, Handbook of World History, Introduction
to Medieval Studies, The Journal of Economic History, Speculum, American
Historical Review, Isis, etc. He has presented numerous papers at
scholarly meetings and has held office in several professional organizations,
including the presidency of the Midwest Medieval History Conference and
the presidency of the New England Medieval Conference. He was Fulbright
Professor of Medieval History at Trinity College, Dublin, in 1970-71,
and has been a visiting professor at Mt. Holyoke College and Smith College.
In 1995, he won the Outstanding Teacher Award in the UMass College of
Humanities and Fine Arts. Professor Ware retired from the History Department
in August 2000.
