Professor Barton's book on the emotional life of the ancient Roman, The Sorrows of the Ancient Romans; The Gladiator and the Monster, was published in 1993 by Princeton University Press. A new book, Roman Honor: The Fire in the Bones (a book on the sentiments of honor) will be published this winter by Berkeley. It is on notions of the "Moment of Truth," on confession, supplication and shame. In addition, four articles on Roman honor will (or have) appeared including "The Roman Blush: the Delicate Matter of Self-Control" (in Constructions of the Classical Body) and "Being in the Eyes; Shame and Sight in Ancient Rome" (in The Roman Gaze). She has been expanding her teaching repertoire to include Global History and World Religions, as well as ancient Greece and Rome.
