Synopsis:
This graduate seminar explores the centrality of slavery to the formation of the various societies of the Americas since the 1492 and reviews some of the best historical research on the political, economic, and social outcomes related to forced African labor in the region. The modern notion of race and the on-going self-liberation efforts of African-descendant women and men are some of these important outcomes.
