Synopsis:

United States history survey in which particular attention will be given to conflicting interpretations of the nation's history from Puritan times to the late twentieth century. Topics to be analyzed will be divided among three broad periods: Colonial America, Nineteenth-Century U.S., and Twentieth-Century U.S. One, two, or even three different themes or incidents will be studied each week. A very brief analytical paper or an oral report will be due nearly every week, as well as longer papers. This course meets the historiography requirement for students concentrating in US history.
