History 655: U.S. Intellectual and Cultural History

Synopsis:

This course will consider scholarship about American culture, primarily in the twentieth century. Students will read at least one book a week on a wide range of subjects from monuments to media, engaging with issues around race, class and gender. Students will also be required to present scholarship, as well as write response papers and complete a longer term project.
