History 691U: American History

Bruce Laurie

Spring 2006 , Monday 6:30 - 9:00 pm

Synopsis:

This course will look at ten major moments in U.S. History—the conquest, Revolution and Constitution, Progressivism, New Deal, and so on—through different historiographical lenses. The point is to acquaint graduate students with the ways in which historians have interpreted our past and to study what we can learn from their work. Each student will be responsible for at least three interpretive papers; each paper will be due in advance of class and will be read by fellow students.
