History 659: Public History

Synopsis:
This seminar will introduce students the key theoretical and practical issues addressed by historians who work to bring history to a wider public. These themes include: the politics of presenting history to the public, history in popular culture and commerce, the history and theory of historical museum exhibits, and the politics and practice of historic preservation, oral history, and monuments. It is aimed at graduate students who may consider work in the varied fields of public history.
