History 646: Topics in Early American History: Era of the American Revolution

Synopsis:
This reading seminar will acquaint students with the history and historiography of the American Revolution. Early class meetings will consider the trajectory of scholarship on the Revolution over the course of the 20th century; the remainder of the semester will be devoted to reviewing thematically new and significant developments in the field. Students will lead discussion, complete short writings, and produce by the end of the semester an extended historiographical essay on a subject of their choosing.
