Qualifications : Masters degree or equivalent professional experience required, MFA preferred. Proven excellence in the teaching of all levels of ballet, pointe, and ballet repertory. Proven excellence in choreographing ballets. Ability to teach at least two of the following theory courses: anatomy/kinesiology for dance, dance education, dance history, dance production, dance and culture, composition. Prior college teaching is preferred. Computer/technology skills desirable. Will be expected to have strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience and interest in collaborative work.
Responsibilities : Teach all levels of ballet; teach theory courses in area of expertise; choreograph on students for department concerts; produce, advise, coordinate department concerts; advise students; attend department meetings; serve on all-college committees; actively contribute to the life of the Department, College and University. Other teaching and non-teaching assignments will be determined by the needs of the Department and the qualifications of the applicant. Maintain an active career in the profession, on a national level that is commensurate with a tenure track position.
The University Dance program offers B.F.A. and B.A. programs in dance. It is the only B.F.A. program in the state universities in New England. Located in the beautiful Pioneer Valley in Western Massachusetts, the University is 90 miles from Boston and 150 miles from New York City. The dance program is part of the University’s Department of Music and Dance, and an active part of the Five College Dance Department, which includes the dance programs at Amherst, Smith, Hampshire, and Mount Holyoke Colleges.

Qualifications : Doctorate required or ABD with completion required before September 1, 2008. A record of teaching and research in elementary/general music instruction, grades PreK-8 required. Ideally, in addition to required qualifications, candidates will have a distinguished record of achievement that includes successful teaching experience in the public schools, at the college or university level, facility with music technology in the music classroom, and interest in developing summer offerings in support of the graduate program.
Responsibilities : Teach elementary classroom methods, graduate music methods, research methods. Additional teaching responsibilities depend on candidate’s areas of expertise. Observe student teachers, advise undergraduate and graduate students, serve on committees and perform other university and professional service, as appropriate. Responsibilities : Conduct Wind Ensemble and Symphony Band. Teach instrumental conducting at the undergraduate and graduate levels: additional teaching responsibilities depend on candidate’s areas of expertise, may include instrumental literature, instrumental methods. Assist in coordinating instrumental recruitment activities with director of marching and athletic bands and applied faculty. Recruiting to include regular visits to secondary schools, offering workshops, adjudicating and actively participating in music education organizations. Maintain regional and national visibility as an ensemble director and educator as part of professional development. Advise undergraduate and graduate students, serve on committees and perform other university and professional service, as appropriate. Position begins September 1, 2008.
