The Asian Languages and Literatures Unit of the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Chinese Language Pedagogy, beginning September 1, 2008. Applicants should have training and expertise in Applied Linguistics or Second Language acquisition, as well as experience in Chinese language instruction. Previous experience in teacher education and knowledge of current trends in secondary education highly desirable. Native or near-native command of Chinese and English and Ph.D. in hand by September 1, 2008 are required. Responsibilities include courses in secondary language acquisition, and foreign language teaching methodology for undergraduates and graduates; directing the Secondary Teacher Education Program (STEP). Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Late Imperial and Early Republican Chinese literature and culture
Assistant Professor, Tenure-track

The Asian Languages and Literatures Unit of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Late Imperial and Early Republican Chinese literature and culture, begin ning September 1, 2008. Applicants with expertise in one or more of the following areas are urged to apply: Ming-Qing vernacular and classical language literature, early Republican literature through the May 4 period, the transition from the imperial system to the early republic, and East-West intercultural relations.

Native or near-native command of Chinese and English and PhD in hand by September 1, 2008, are required. The successful candidate will teach both undergraduate and graduate courses in literary and cultural studies, an advanced undergraduate language course, and will work with other faculty to develop and offer new general education courses offered in English.

Spanish Second Language Acquisition
Assistant Professor, Tenure Track

The Unit in Spanish and Portuguese at the University of Massachusetts Amherst seeks candidates for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin September 1, 2008. Ph.D. required in Spanish Second Language Acquisition/Applied Linguistics. Previous experience in teacher education and knowledge of current trends in secondary education desirable. Familiarity with NCATE review processes and ACTFL proficiency testing would be assets. Knowledge of Portuguese is highly desirable. Hispanic Linquistics
Lecturer
