The DEFA Film Library at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the only
archive and research center outside Europe devoted to a broad spectrum of
filmmaking from or related to East Germany. It produces and distributes
titles on DVD and rents 35mm and 16mm prints, in cooperation with a wide
range of partners. DEFA Film Library films have been screened at venues
throughout North America, including: The Museum of Modern Art in New York;
Harvard Film Archive; the American Film Institute and National Gallery of
Art in Washington D.C.; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Museum
of Fine Arts Houston; and the Hammer Museum, James Bridges Theater and Los
Angeles County Museum of Art in Los Angeles. Feel free to come see their films
and use their archive; research visitors are welcome at the DEFA Film Library!
