Center for the Study of African American Language

The purpose of the CSAAL is to foster and integrate basic research on language in the African American community and applications of that research in educational, social, and cultural realms. The CSAAL, which is housed in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, will serve as a center of research on various dimensions of African American Language and as a resource for communities across the country with a commitment to providing information about this linguistic variety.
