Opportunities:
Undergraduate
Although theoretical high energy physics is challenging branch of physics, in the past few years the department had some undergraduate students who completed projects in different topics. click here to know about some of these projects.
Graduate
Highly motivated students in theoretical high energy physics are welcome to join the group. Students from the Umass Physics gradute program join the group after passing their qualifying examination. The graduate students are financially suppoted by teaching or research assistantships. If you are intersted in the research pursued by the group and want to visit us, please contact with any of fhe group members or with the graduate secretary Jane Knapp (jknapp@physics.umass.edu). If you are considering graduate study in Physics at Umass Amherst, look at the Physics Graduate Progam Page.
Currently seven graduate students are working in different projects with different faculty members. In the past 24 years the department has awarded 35 Ph. D.'s in fundamental theoretical physics. Typically a graduate student take five to six years to get his Ph.D. degree in theoretical high energy physics.
The theory group at UMass is active in research concerning physics from the largest scales of cosmology to the fundamental theory at the smallest scales. The group policy is flexible that students can work with different faculty members and in different topics.
