This project is an approximate ten-year replication of a study on recreation-tourism conducted by the Coastal and Ocean Resources Economics Program in the Florida Keys for the FKNMS. In addition to replicating the original study we are also collecting new baseline data on knowledge, attitudes and perceptions of sanctuary management strategies and regulations of users, both resident and non-residents. We are specifically interested in societal values, preferences and policy/management of coral reef ecosystems within the sanctuary borders. With a range of survey instruments focusing on topics like satisfaction, expenditure, coral bleaching and specialization we are beginning to understand the human dimensions of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.
