The Human Dimensions of Marine and Coastal Ecosystems program is designed to enhance cooperation and collaboration among academia, the private sector, and federal, state and local governments to improve the incorporation of scientifically based results and train social scientists in the management of marine and coastal ecosystems. The program conducts and promotes the inclusion and best practices of human dimensions research capabilities within marine and coastal decision-making. We focus on scientific research and the graduate level education of human dimensions specialists. This research focuses on the human dimensions of marine and coastal ecosystem issues including, but not limited to, estuary restoration activities, stakeholder engagement, aquaculture, assessing social values, environmental policy development, socio-economics, aquatic zoning of multiple uses, and pollution abatement and control. These topics are examined within the context of present and future natural and social conditions to insure the relevance of results.
