| The Moser/Nix Duo draws their repertoire
from a variety of sources, including classical, folk and international
music, as well as original compositions that exploit the unique blend and
timbre of mandolin and guitar. Their work combines the compositional
and arranging techniques of the classical musician with the rich modal
idioms of forms of folk music and improvisation. Juxtaposing traditional
and novelty tunes with Bach, Brazilian dances with jazz standards and original
compositions, The Moser/NixDuo views the classical way of music-making
as an integral living art that responds to the influences of our culture
in dynamic and inclusive ways. The Moser/Nix Duoís original compositions
are informed by a wide ranging musical interest, and their arrangements
are ìtuned and tweakedî for maximum color and texture. They delight
in exploring the boundaries between western classical and other musics.
Charles Moser is an accomplished Mandolinist. Since exploring the mandolin as an octave voice in mandolin and guitar orchestras in the late 1970ís, he has exploited the instrumentís colorful timbrel range in folk and classical music. A veteran soloist and pop musician, Charles has an abiding appreciation for the rhythms and harmonies of folk music from around the world. Michael Nix has performed numerous concerts, both solo and in various
ensembles throughout the United States and Asia; classical, folk, rock,
contemporary, and jazz music on guitar and lute, as well as bluegrass banjo
in his 17 year stint with the duo ìWhole Wheatî. Michael is also
a composer, opera librettist, and music critic. His compositions
and arrangements, which reflect his wide range of musical experiences,
have won him awards and commissions.
