Minutes from the Officers' Meeting, posted Tuesday 11/18/08

Hi everyone ~

Here's a recap of the brief officers' meeting last week. The next meeting for all GHA members is scheduled for Friday, December 5th at 3:30 pm following the Career Series presentation on publishing articles and books (2:30-3:30 pm).

A preliminary list of committees and chairs have be established. A rough draft of comittee responsibilities is included, but as we move closer to the event additional tasks will arise. Please let us know which group(s) you would like to join! All will need assistance!!!

Stay tuned as the official CFP and invitation to faculty are published. Please come to next meeting on December 5th to discuss the next steps -- spring semester will be a roller coaster -- this is our time to brainstorm.

On a side note, the GHA Thanksgiving Food Drive has been extended and through the first weeks of December. New fliers (as it is now a Holiday Food Drive) will be distributed shortly. Details to follow!

See you soon!

GHA At-A-Glance

Meetings-- GHA meetings will be held on a weekly or bi-weekly basis (depending on necessity).

The Fall Book-and-Bake Sale-- The GHA's first fundraiser each year is the Fall Book-and-Bake Sale. Students and professors contribute books (old or new, on any and every topic) to sell to the campus community. "Foodies" in the department, or those at least willing to buy pastries or cookies, contribute baked goods as another way to raise funds. Feed your body, feed your mind!

Donations are accepted throughout the year-- contact one of our officers. Unsold inventory is stored in Herter 716. (Looking for something specific? Browsers always welcome!)

We will need volunteers to work the table, so if you have any free time on the day of the book sale we would appreciate your help, even if only for an hour.

This sale is held in the Lobby of Herter Hall during September or October.

The UMass Graduate Student History Conference-- Each year, the GHA holds the UMass Graduate History Conference, open to graduate students from across the nation. The theme for the 2007-2008 Conference was "Confronting Traumatic History".

This page slapped together in a halting and haphazard manner by Bill Allen (when he should have been studying), from stuff he had lying around the house.
Feel free to be amazed if any of it actually makes sense. Any mistakes are entirely Bill's fault, but he's used to that...
Header photo by Bill Allen; member photos (and mad elite photo-taking skillz) by Michella Marino, except for Jen's-- I swiped that one from the Department website...
