March 22 - Greenways: A Path to Smart Growth Conference

Sponsored by: Department of Environmental Protection, Connecticut Greenway, The Connecticut Greenways Council, and the Trust for Public Land.

This conference will feature speakers from around Connecticut who will present new perspectives on the many benefits of greenways. Our keynote speaker is Will Rogers, President of the Trust for Public Land, who will discuss the economic benefits greenways and other open spaces have generated around the country.

April 6 - Beyond a Tourism Venue-Maine to Florida- The East Coast Greenway

Presented by Karen Votava.

Karen Votava is a founding member and executive director of the East Coast Greenway Alliance, whose vision is to create a linear park linking the cities along the Eastern Seaboard from Maine to Florida. She earned a master’s degree in city planning from Yale University and served for 25 years with the New York City Planning Department, where she wrote A Greenway Plan for New York City, a blueprint for 350 miles of off-road multiuse paths linking all parts of the nation’s largest city.

The lecture will be held at 4:00pm, Thursday, April 6, 2000, in the Procopio Room, Hills Central at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, MA
