Natural Resources:

There are several greenway planning initiatives currently underway in Vermont; they range in scale from local to statewide significance. Often these efforts are not clearly defined as greenways specifically, but they are considered greenways based on their multipurpose goals or spatial co-occurrence with other conservation or preservation efforts.

Currently, Vermont is nearing completion of a statewide Gap Analysis. The program seeks to identify and catalogue the richness of the state's biodiversity through a process of habitat mapping and analysis. Once completed, this will be a valuable tool in the state greenway planning effort.

The Vermont Agency of Natural Resources recognizes the value and utility of greenway planning and has begun to adopt strategies established by greenway planners.
