Montague, Massachusetts
Overall Goal for Montague
To increase tourism, recreational opportunities and environmental
awareness while preserving, protecting, and celebrating the rich
historical, cultural, and geological qualities of the town.
Regional:
Goal- To connect Montague into the larger greenway systems
of the Franklin County, Massachusetts, and New England.
Objectives-
- To make connections to regional trails including the Robert
Frost, the Metacomet / Monadnock, and the Connecticut River Water
Trail.
- Create connections between cultural, historic, and recreational
sites between townships.
- Perserve ecologically sensitive areas and diverse landscape
types inorder to maintain stable habitats and the regions ecological
character.
Town Level:
Goal- To reinforce Montague's important cultural and
historical resources through a series of recreational opportunities,
as well as protecting sensitive ecological areas.
Objectives-
- Increase awareness of the site at the local and regional
levels.
- Establish the site as an exciting attraction / destination
point.
- To express the sites historical and cultural relevance to
the town of Montague.
- To support the watchable wildlife foundation by enhancing
views of bald eagle nesting sites within Barton Cove.
Site Level: Cabot Camp
Goal- To recognize Cabot Camp as a valuable site to
the town of Montague for its rich history, recreational opportunities,
ecological significance, and regional importance.
Objectives-
- To increase the regional awareness of the site as an important
stop along the national heritage river, Connecticut River.
- To recognise Cabot Camp as a historical property, perserving
it to become an exciting attraction / destination point.
- To provide new uses for Cabot Camp while preserving the ecological
character of the Connecticut and Millers Rivers and the surrounding
landscape.
- To restore the site into a valuable link in the greater greenway
scheme of Montague.
