Vision Plan: Cultural Resources Summary |
|
Rhode Island has two American Heritage Rivers, the Blackstone River and the Woonasquatucket River. There is protection for scenic rivers and roads, state parks and historic areas. The second section presents proposed historic and cultural protection plans. The third section suggests strategies to connect the historical and cultural resources located around the state with greenways. The table shows that there is an abundance of historic sites in Rhode Island. Currently 25% of the state lies within a National Heritage Corridor located in the northern part of the state where the Blackstone and Woonasquatucket Rivers flow. In addition to this 40% of the land area and 46 miles of trails are proposed by the author and the Advisory Board. The map shows the plan for Rhode Island's historical and cultural resources. There are 52,318 historic sites located in Rhode Island and many are the mills, factories and houses built during the industrial era.
