Existing Major Hiking Trails of New England The Long Trail, The Appalachian Trail and The Metacomet-Monadnock Trail create the foundation for this study because of their substantial length and/or interstate connections. The three trails combined offer approximately 982 miles of hiking trails that together cross five New England states. These trails are the beginning of an intricate network of trails that will be woven together. ![]()
