East Coast Greenway
The Connecticut section
of the proposed East Coast Greenway represents approximately
150 miles of greenways throughout the state. This proposal comes
from the East Coast Greenway Alliance in conjunction with the
Connecticut Greenway Council. The path of the greenway enters
the state from New York in the southwest corner near Greenwich
and exits the state into Rhode Island in the eastern Connecticut
town of Sterling. The proposed East Coast Greenway connects with
the many existing greenways in the state including the Farmington
Canal Greenway and the Charter Oak Greenway. Other smaller trail
networks are also apart of this proposal including the Airline
Trail and the Hop River Trail in the eastern part of the state.
The major gap in this proposed greenway network is the section
from the New York State line to New Haven. The Plan calls for
a greenway to be developed along side the Merritt Parkway. The
East Coast Greenway in its entirety will span more than 2000
miles, from Key West, Florida to the Canadian border.
