Recreational Resources:

Greenway proposals in the state are many. The new 1999 Registry of Connecticut Greenways and corresponding map will be completed this summer by the State's Greenway Assistance Center (DEP) in Hartford. This registry will add critical information of newly completed and proposed greenways in the state. A spreadsheet summary of nearly one hundred proposed and completed greenways, derived from a draft
of this registry, can be found in Appendix B. Kathleen Lessard, a graduate student of Landscape Architecture at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, summarized the information for this spreadsheet.

Highlights of this spreadsheet include the many uses that these greenways encompass. They include: habitat conservation, recreation, hiking, fishing, biking, education, flood protection, tourist destinations, urban revitalization, scenic protection, cultural protection, watershed protection, open space, and agricultural preservation. An overwhelming majority of these greenways also highlight linkages to other greenways and trails.

As previously mentioned, the Connecticut Greenways Council has developed a Top Ten Priority List from all of the current greenways proposals in the state. These greenway proposals, of which many segments have been completed, span the entire state.
