The Connecticut Greenways Council, formed in 1995, has developed a 'top ten' priority list for greenway projects in the state. These priority greenways can be potential candidates for the state openspace land acquisition program. The Greenways Council brings together people from around the state representing the viewpoints from many greenways users and planners. It is comprised of several Department of Environmental Protection employees including people from the Greenways Assistance Center, park managers, Land Acquisition managers, representatives from Department of Economic and Community Development, The Connecticut Bicycle Coalition, the Connecticut Horse Council, The Nature Conservancy, various Watershed Councils, Heritage Corridor representatives, and other representatives from greenways advocacy groups.
