As global climate change and other environmental issues become some of the defining issues of our time, UMass Amherst continuously supplies our students with groundbreaking courses and educational opportunities through which the newest technologies, the latest environmental controversies and potential solutions to the world’s environmental issues are examined and discussed. Such a breadth of courses and programs gives our students the opportunity to enhance their education with a solid understanding of contemporary environmental issues, regardless of their major or academic focus.
The Eco-Rep Program
The UMass Amherst Eco-Rep Program is a student facilitated environmental education program with objective to promote environmentally responsible behavior in the University of Massachusetts Amherst residence halls, the Eco-Rep Program strives to create an environmentally literate student population and to help residential students reduce their individual impacts on the environment.
Course Offerings
As part of our dedication to decreasing our campus’ environmental impacts and greenhouse gas emissions, the University offers a multitude of courses related to environmental sustainability, with more courses offered each year. For students interested in sustainable agriculture, there is now a concentration within the Plant, Soil and Insect Sciences department called Sustainable Food and Farming.
Continuing and Professional Education
Beyond the amazing courses offered through the undergraduate program here at UMass Amherst, our Continuing and Professional Education department has developed a whole set of courses focused around sustainability, including a Sustainable Entrepreneurship course.
