Dissertation & Thesis Guidelines

FYI: The online thesis and dissertation guidelines are only available in the PDF format.

PDF version file:
To view and print a PDF file you will need to obtain a copy of the Acrobat Reader application by Adobe. If you do not have this program you may download the installation program for this for free from their website. After you download the Acrobat Install Program you will need to run the setup file to install the Acrobat Reader. Once installed open up a PDF file (for our purposes it is the guidelines99.pdf file, which is listed below). Please follow the download and installation instructions from Adobe and direct any questions towards setting up this application to them. Do not forget you will also need to download a copy of the actual guidelines99.pdf file, see below for more details on this.

Download Acrobat Reader by Adobe (free)

GUIDELINES.PDF ( is compatible with the Acrobat Reader by Adobe): Theses and Dissertation Guidelines guidelines.pdf 94 KB

Good luck! You should now have enough information to be able to obtain, view, and print out the guidelines

Additional information concerning the use of MS Word for formatting your thesis or dissertation is available through OIT at www.oit.umass.edu/workshops/tutorials.html or by emailing workshops@oit.umass.edu.
