Graduate School Procedures Regarding Violations of the Picketing Code
IV. Informal Meeting
a. Upon the filing of charges, the Graduate School may conduct an informal meeting with the charged student, at which the nature of and the responsibility for an alleged offense are discussed. The charged student shall have the right to refuse such a meeting and proceed to a hearing board. As a result of the informal meeting the Graduate School may withdraw any charge deemed to be without basis.
b. The Graduate Dean or his or her designee will conduct the informal meeting with the accused in the presence of a neutral observer who will be appointed by the Graduate Council. Others present may include the complainant and an advisor for the accused.
c. If the facts and sanctions concerning the alleged violation can be agreed upon by the student and the Graduate School an Administrative Agreement shall be prepared and signed by both the student and the Dean of the Graduate School. An Administrative Agreement shall constitute a waiver of the right to a hearing and any appeal, and acceptance of the sanctions imposed. Although the Graduate School may discuss the potential range of sanctions with the student, no statements shall be made by the representative of the Graduate School concerning sanctions that will be imposed as a result of a request for a formal hearing.
d. If the facts or sanctions cannot be agreed upon by the accused student and the Graduate School, the matter shall be referred to the hearing board.
