Graduate School Procedures Regarding Violations of the Picketing Code
I. The Right To a Hearing (Sen. Doc. No. 92-010)
a. A graduate student accused of violating the University Picketing Code shall be entitled to a hearing on the alleged charge(s).
b. Charges against a graduate student may be filed at the request of any student, faculty or staff member, or the University acting as an institution, no later than two months (excluding the months of June, July, August and January) after discovery of the alleged infraction and the identity of the accused. (In an instance where the alleged incident is covered by another University policy or procedure, the timeline stipulated in that document will be followed.)
[If a student withdraws after the filing of such charges, either (1) a "registration hold" may be placed on the student's academic record and the student notified that disciplinary action may be initiated upon the student's application for readmission, or (2) the Graduate School may proceed to resolve the disciplinary action.]
c. All proceedings under this policy shall be conducted in a manner consistent with the principles of fundamental fairness.
d. A student shall have the right to be informed of the specific charges made against them in advance of any hearing or informal meeting; to examine the record concerning the evidence and witnesses presented; to present his or her own evidence and witnesses; and to have an advisor of his or her choosing present with him or her at the hearing.
