Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants (DDIG)
The National Science Foundation offers Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants (DDIG) to help support dissertation research in the disciplines listed below. This list includes the names and web addresses for the Directorates, Divisions and Programs that offer Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants. A complete application packet includes a copy of the NSF Grant Proposal Guide (http://www.nsf.gov/cgi-bin/getpub?gpg) as well as Division and Program specific guidelines; web addresses for these guidelines are provided for each division and program listed below. Please note that NSF Dissertation Improvement Grants require that a faculty member, usually the dissertation advisor, be listed as the principle investigator and the application must be submitted through the Office of Grants and Contracts (http://www.umass.edu/research/ogca). Applicants must submit their proposal, a copy of the NSF grant guidelines and an OGCA Internal Processing Form (http://www.umass.edu/research/ogca/forms.htm) at least five to seven business days prior to the postmark deadline date. Beginning in October 2000 NSF will require applicants to submit their proposals electronically using FastLane (https://www.fastlane.nsf.gov/). Fastlane proposals will still need to be reviewed by OGCA before they are sent to NSF. If you have additional questions concerning these programs, would like help developing your proposal, need help downloading materials or using FastLane, please contact the Graduate Student Grant Service for help at gsgs@grad.umass.edu or 545-5279.
