Joseph L. Boscov Scholarship
2009-2010
Deadline: May 1, 2009
A scholarship funded through the Joseph L. Boscov Endowment will be awarded annually to
a United States
citizen who has been accepted for admission to the
Graduate School or who is currently enrolled in a graduate program. Under the terms of the endowment, the chief administrator of graduate programs will select the scholarship recipients, with preference to women age 35 or older, on the basis of financial need, from among those students "whose studies will equip them for increased service to the needs of people and/or the environment."
In order to apply students must meet the aforementioned criteria. Each department/program is allowed to nominate one submission with the following information in six (6) individually collated packets:
1.
A personal statement, not to exceed two pages, that demonstrates how the graduate student's studies will equip them for increased service to the needs of people and/or the environment and also addresses the student's financial need.
2.
A letter of recommendation from the graduate program director demonstrating how the student meets the requirements for the scholarship.
3.
A copy of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form (FAFSA) for 2009-10 must be on file with the Financial Aid Office. (NOTE** Students should realize it will take approximately 4-6 weeks for the FAFSA to be processed and the form can be found online.)
4.
A copy of the student's current resume/curriculum vitae (c.v.)
The Scholarship will provide a stipend (equivalent to a typical departmental 10 hour TA) and will carry a tuition waiver, a curriculum fee waiver, and defer the basic and SHIP single health plan fees.
Important Note** The financial aid recipient (students receiving a Federal Direct Loan) will find that this non-working scholarship payment will appear as an outside scholarship on your aid file and will affect any loan eligibility for the academic year.
Departments/programs cannot recommend more than one student for the Scholarship. Please submit nominations to John R. Mullin, Dean of the Graduate School, 514 Goodell Building, 140 Hick's Way,
